Is it a musical or is it improv? Well... both. One of my castmates mentioned yesterday, as we were talking about last week's show, that the balance of these two elements (musical v. improv) tips in different directions every show. I think that is what draws our fans to the show time and again. Sometimes the musical numbers are just unbelievable, and the level of musicality is riding high. Other times, it is the pure inventiveness and bold attack of improv and storytelling that becomes the spectacle. I think we are always trying to keep both sides operating at a high level. It is nice to know that if the music isn't clicking, the show doesn't fall apart. In fact, it may even make the improv shine brighter. The structure of this show is genius in the way it balances 'the funny' with the songs-- it's a HIT combination!

Wise words from Chistine Turner
You know, comedy can also teach us a lesson. What did I learn Friday night? That healthcare in the distant future of 15002 is just as dismal as it is now and the Irish can be deeply suspicious of fancy cocktails from New York. Also, that referring to yourself in the third person can be empowering and that loving cherry Danish and being in love with a cherry Danish are two very different things. But the real takeaway from Friday night was this: a mother should never get in between a boy and his llama. It just hurts everyone.
A message from Rob:
"Friday's show was a TOTAL blast. The group was incredibly playful and everyone's work was excellent. I think that being playful on stage as an improviser is both quite enjoyable and incredible important for an audience. I sometimes think that the audience enters into an unspoken contract with us. These people, who are not necessarily the kind of people who enjoy speaking in public, let alone calling out 'suggestions', will agree to make themselves vulnerable in that way if we agree to take their ideas and do our best to make turn those ideas into gold. It can be scary for an audience to watch actors risk 'failure'. The only way that we actors can make the audience comfortable is by sticking to our part of the contact and by showing the audience that we are not worried. That's where the playfulness comes in. So, while it's a blast to play with my fellow cast mates, it is also a very important thing for an audience to see."
