Travelogue: Lynchburg, VA

Greg Triggs gets excited the night before our show in Lynchburg

Our recent show in Lynchburg, VA was, despite not knowing what to expect (the norm in improv) a blast.  We didn’t stray from downtown where we found terrific restaurants, a gorgeous river path and incredible people.

If you find yourself in that part of Virginia you have to go to Jimmy’s on the James, 610 Commerce Street.  They have great food, tasty affordable drinks and wonderful live musicians.  To this jaded NYer it’s one of the friendliest places we’ve ever found on the road.

I was anticipating feeling like the other – a battered liberal down on his luck after the elections visiting the home of Liberty University founded by Jerry Falwell.  It’s a strong presence in the city for sure; but people are still people.  After months of people yelling at each other, fighting for their own point of view I met a grad from a university I had pre-conceived notions about.  I expected a struggle.  Instead I got a thoughtful conversation that opened me up to the concerns of another point of view.

And some delicious crab cakes.

What’s not to love?  Thanks Lynchburg.  You’ve got a fan in New York.
